Freedom Dance

Being a resident of Victoria, I am blessed with the abundance of festivals, celebrations, and concerts that this beautiful city has to offer. On Canada day, I made my way down to the parliament buildings to listen to beautiful music, enjoy the hustle and bustle of the crowd, and watch the stunning fireworks… As I sat on my blanket, gently tapping my toe to the music and observing the crowd, I began to get that urge from deep within, telling me to get up and dance…

At first, my body began rhythmically moving the music, my feet carrying me through the cool grass at a gentle pace…but as the music played on and dusk engulfed me in the quiet darkness of evening, I found myself completely lost int he music. I could feel the beats, voices, and feelings of each song flowing through me, consuming me like a lover. While swinging my hips, rocking my body, and dancing like no one was watching, I found myself caught up in a girlish moment, skipping like a child…

It was glorious to let go and feel the music, letting it carry me on the wind, softly at first, then with speed and elegance…zooming in and out of the crowd, barely avoiding collision, watching the faces fly by, the looks, the voices mingling with the air and darkness…then the loud boom of the fireworks brought my tomy knees, literally…I collapsed on my blanket, gazing into the nighttime sky to watch the sparkling explosions of energy rock our world…
