Natural Women in the Media?

on

Well, I think that Glamour magazine posting more ‘natural’ photos of women such as Lizzi Miller is a step in the right direction. In the photo Lizzie posed for, she is not only going au naturel, she is also sitting in a relaxed position…AND…drum roll please…she is not sitting in that rigid, gut sucked in pose we so often see women in…

The one thing I find disturbing is that we in North America refer to a model who is between a size 12 and 14 a plus model, especially considering the average North American woman happens to be this size…However, the positive feedback Lizzi has received helps me to feel more confident in our society as a whole.

I must admit that, on occasion, I’ve been known to ‘suck in my gut’…ahh well..nobody’s perfect:-)

I first saw this photo some weeks ago when it caused a stir because there was evidence of a “tummy”!! Get real people, proper women DO have a tummy! And cellulite. And love handles. And stretch marks!
Lizzy Miller is a fabulous looking woman, regardless of her (minor) perceived imperfections.
Oh, by the way, all these size 0 models we are force fed by the media have nothing to brag about! They invariably look unhappy and unhealthy. Lizzy doesn’t does she?!

Yes, I saw it a bit ago, but was too caught up in projects and writing on other topics to share at the time. Yesterday I saw the interview and decided I must share! Yes, women and men for that matter, come in all shapes and sizes and each of us share and expresses our beauty in our own way….

Yes, I think it is vitally important for us to accept the naturally occuring size 0 women, size 6 women, size 12-14 and beyond women….women and men of all shapes and sizes visually express their beauty in different ways…my daughter, who just turned 15…was a beautiful, curvy size 0 when she was…hmmm…just 14 or so…

Now that her body is maturing, she is around a size 3-4…I only know her size so well, because it is always changing as she grows…on one of the modelling sites I am a member of, you have to inpute your size and measurments…I had no clue! In my body image classes for women, I teach people to let go of sizing themselves…I think it is a partof the path to unconditional accceptance…When I need to know if a pair of pants fit, I either hold them up to myself and make an educated guess, or I just try them on…and I DON’T look at the size!
