Behind the Scenes Video: La Figa Photo Shoot…

on

Food is love. Food is pleasure. Food is everything.

La Figa: Visions of Food and Form features a spectacular collection of sensual photography -- models wearing nothing but the edible creations of James Beard award-winning chef Tiberio Simone. Using the human body as his canvas, and natural fresh ingredients as his paint, Simone's elegant and tasteful nude images are the culmination of a five-year collaboration with photographer Matt Freedman.

Not just a photography book, La Figa is a celebration of Simone's vision of food and touch as the basic ingredients of life -- with recipes, writing about food and sensuality, and the story of how he become the 'pleasure activist' he is today. The book makes an intriguing addition to your coffee table or a unique gift for a special someone.

My daughter was recording the La Figa photo shoot with my Bloggie…I decided to leave her voice so you can truly take a look behind the scenes…Tiberio thought Eden might be bored, but, as an artist, she loved the whole concept and learned a lot!

Also, she scored two back drops, which she has been cutting into art paper and painting on like crazy! Reduce, reuse, recycle! Gotta love it!

PS: The Ultimate Tantra Summit is receiving a huge amount of positive feedback, check it out!

Yes you’ll notice that the first hing Eden did in her modified, was remove the purple headband and replace it with a copy of the bet and star fruit from my chest….the whole time she was watching Tiberio, she was very respectful. She made a quiet suggestion here and there, but I knew her creative mind was wishing she could just shove him out of the way and take over:-) It was fun! Thanks!

The first thing I have to say is what a wonderful relationship you have with Eden! Obviously it helps that she is an artist, but there can’t be that many daughters who would video their mums naked being prepared for an artistic photoshoot. It also says much about you that you were able to let Eden film you like that.
As for the result, well you look good enough to adorn a regal banquet! And I’m still jealous of that abdomen of yours!

It is funny…When Eden was 7 years old, I read a number of studies on the topic of teaching sexuality to children. What I learned is that it is much easier to teach children about this sensitive topic BEFORE their hormones kick in. My mother never eve told me about my period before it spilled from my body in a pool bathroom. I was so naive, gullible and trusting. It wreaked havoc in my life and led me down a number of dangerous paths. The lack of education also contributed to me being sexually abused from the age of one until fourteen..I simply didn’t understand that it was not the norm…I was uneducated and unprepared..I believe it also contributed to me losing my virginity in an aggressive date rape situation.

During my teen years, I was a total right off….Things were pretty crazy. I was very self destructive. At some point, I managed to stand back….almost as a by stander, and look at my life. I not only decided that this was not the path I wanted for myself, I also made a conscious choice to ensure that my children were full educated…an in fact, that all people were educate, or at least had access to the information needed to not only keep them safe, but also allow them to experience pleasure. My daughter is almost 16 and is an empowered young woman. She is comfortable with nudity, but also understands the potential downside of sexuality…the shadow side of human beings.

Once her hormones kicked in, the conversation about sex, sexuality, femininity, etc. stopped. She refused to discuss it with me. For a stretch of time, anyways. Then, because we already had the base to work from, the conversation began to open up again. Funny, my boy Sid, who is now 13, has always been comfortable and confident in this area. He is incredibly comfortable with his sexuality. As for Eden, I often wondered if she approved of my work, or whether she might possibly judge it. I acknowledged my blog, but never really provided her with a whole lot of details.

It was only during our trip downtown for La Figa that she mentioned that she has been reading it for 4 months! I immediately blushed and asked her if she was horrified. She explained that she purposely chooses not to read the ones about her dad and I…sigh of relief…but she loves my writing and it has helped her to understand her own sexuality. Eden and I are contemplating the creation of a collaboration…her anime art mixed with my teachings about sex, sexuality and sexual awareness…I hope it comes together…the idea is to reach our youth on their level with a medium that they can relate to…

Thanks for your sweet comments and feedback Nature girl! Lots of love, glad to hear from your email that things are well! From my heart to yours, xoxo Joy

We have something in common in as much that we had mothers who didn’t, for whatever reason, think it important to educate their daughters about periods. My parents are from the 1920s but they may as well have been from the stone age as far as preparing their daughters is concerned. I am so glad I have sons! So much easier to relate to. And being boys, they seem to have worked out for themselves what sexuality is all about, they gave me and Phil such a condescending look when we tried to broach the subject of how babies are made (and prevented!) even at the age of 10 or 11!
You are well aware of how my teenage years went, so the least said the better really!
But there is no escaping the fact that the relationship you have with Eden is wonderful, so much better than the relationship you and I had with our mums.

Yes, my mom to this day does no like talking about anything birth or sex related with me. She actually attended one of my retreats a few years back, which overall was an incredible experience for us. However, while in circle, we were going around and i was asking each woman how she felt about her sexuality and herself as a sensual being…my mom, in front of all the women in the retreat says “None of your damn business young lady!” LMAO…

We all erupted into laughter, even my mom:-) I have a very different approach….the interesting thing is that for me, having my incredibly hot, yummy and passionate sexuality repressed created “Tantrachick”….whereas my daughter, Eden, who has grown up reading the Red Tent and learned about sexuality from a young age, finds herself holding back. It is so interesting how different parenting styles create different outcomes…not better or worse, just different!

I think that, participating in my shoots and reading this blog is really helping her to give herself permission to explore more about her own sensuality and femininity…Tiberio from La Figa just called this morning to tell me that both he and his circle of friends love my writing:-) so sweet! He also mentioned that he would like to have Eden assist him in some of his future shoots! Beautiful!

      Lots of love, Joy
